The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has voiced its strong disapproval of Kapil Sharma’s Netflix show, ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show,’ for repeatedly using the term ‘Bombay’ instead of ‘Mumbai.’ The party’s film wing leader, Ameya Khopkar, has warned of potential agitation if the incorrect term continues to be used. Khopkar pointed out instances where guests on the show referred to Mumbai as Bombay. He argued that the official name change to Mumbai occurred 30 years ago, and the continued use of the outdated term is disrespectful. Khopkar clarified that the MNS’s stance is not related to any political agenda. He directly urged Kapil Sharma, who has worked in Mumbai for years, to respect the city and its people. The MNS has requested that the show’s team ensure that guests and anchors use the correct name, Mumbai, in future episodes. The Great Indian Kapil Show, which premiered this year, features prominent comedians and special guests.
