The movie ‘Thunderbolts,’ a surprising hit, gained both critical acclaim and box office success, defying recent trends of Marvel projects. The film is scheduled for its OTT release three months following its theatrical debut. The plot of ‘Thunderbolts’ involves a team of antiheroes who are trapped and forced to work together on a hazardous assignment.
‘Thunderbolts’ is slated to launch on JioHotstar on August 27, 2025, and will also be available in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
JioHotstar’s announcement stated, “Not super. Not heroes. Not giving up. Thunderbolts* The New Avengers streaming 27 August onwards in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, only on JioHotstar.”
‘Thunderbolts’ stars Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer, Wendell Pierce, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
The filmmaker discussed the film’s plot, stating, “I’ve seen numerous synopses which incorrectly state that Valentina assembled the team to do evil. I understand that assumption, but that isn’t the actual narrative.”
About Yelena’s role, he added, “She’s central to the story. Yelena begins in a specific place, and how she escapes that situation and with whom, forms the story’s core. The concept is similar to Ronin or Reservoir Dogs, where the characters have no reason to trust each other. Could they possibly learn to cooperate? What sort of confrontations might arise?”
Director Jake Schreier mentioned to Entertainment Weekly about the new developments in Thunderbolts, “You know as much as I know about that. I mean, I was there, but I didn’t direct that scene. That comes from the set of a movie that is officially beginning production on Monday.”
He stated, “I was very happy to be there and lucky to be there. It was so fun to see your characters go off into this bigger context. We’ve been living in our own contained world, but it was really fun to see them there.”
‘Thunderbolts’ was later renamed ‘The New Avengers,’ setting up the storyline for upcoming Marvel films.
