Following its theatrical release, the supernatural horror film ‘Maa’, featuring Kajol, is set to stream on the OTT platform. The movie was well-received by viewers, who appreciated its unique perspective on the supernatural horror genre, especially praising Kajol’s powerful acting.
‘Maa’ is scheduled to be released on Netflix on August 22, 2025.
Netflix publicized the OTT premiere of the film with the statement, “When a mother is the protector, every predator will lose. Watch Maa, out 22 August, on Netflix.”
Kajol, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, discussed the film, mentioning the possibility of expanding it into a franchise. She noted, “Maa is the kind of film that will compel you to sit at the edge of your seat because it will make you feel, and make you stand up with her (the lead protagonist) to win her fight; that’s one element we have truly achieved.”
In an interview, she spoke about her experience with VFX. She mentioned that the green screen environment doesn’t offer much room for improvisation. She elaborated, “You really have no choice in the matter. You have to look in a particular way, raise your hand in a particular way, your body language has to be a certain way. If you get a little leeway, you can improvise to a certain extent, but not much. It’s a very different way of working and performing altogether. It took a little while getting used to. Wrapping your head around it takes one or two days. And you need to have complete faith in your director. He needs to know what you’re doing because you definitely don’t.”
The cast also includes Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, and Kherin Sharma in supporting roles.
