The South Indian film industry currently features three films making significant strides at the box office. Among these, the recently released ‘Miray,’ starring Teja Sajja, is gaining traction globally and showing impressive numbers. Preceding its release, two films have already made a mark with their earnings. Kalyani Priyadarshan’s ‘Lokah’ is delivering outstanding results, whereas ‘Dil Madrasi’ is managing to garner a reasonable collection. Let’s examine the performance of both films and assess their financial outcomes.
‘Lokah Chapter 1’ has earned ₹126.95 crore in India within 21 days. The film’s gross collection amounts to ₹148.55 crore. Its overseas performance has been even more impressive, becoming one of the year’s highest-grossing films. Reports indicate that it has earned ₹111.45 crore in foreign markets, resulting in a worldwide collection of ₹260 crore. On its 22nd day of release, the film’s collection was ₹1.85 crore.
This is the lowest single-day collection recorded for the film to date. As a result, ‘Lokah’ has accumulated a total of ₹261.85 crore in 22 days, as of the time of this report. With a budget of ₹30 crore, the film has already earned approximately nine times its budget. It will be interesting to monitor how the earnings will continue to progress.
On the other hand, ‘Dil Madrasi’ reportedly had a high-profile budget. Reports suggest the movie was produced with a budget ranging from ₹180-200 crore. Unfortunately, the film isn’t living up to expectations. Its earnings in India haven’t been particularly remarkable, and it has failed to receive adequate support in foreign markets. Reports indicate that the film has collected ₹60.20 crore in India to date. Sivakarthikeyan’s film required two weeks to reach this figure. In overseas markets, the film only managed to collect ₹24.80 crore within two weeks. The movie’s worldwide collection has reached ₹95 crore. However, considering the total earnings, the film has only recouped about half of its budget. This is a concerning development.
Based on the financial data, ‘Lokah’ is undeniably succeeding, whereas Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Dil Madrasi’ is struggling. For ‘Dil Madrasi,’ any consideration of profitability would be premature. The film is not even recovering its substantial budget. Furthermore, the arrival of new films in theaters could potentially impact the collections of both movies.
