An online controversy has erupted following singer Lucky Ali’s strong condemnation of lyricist Javed Akhtar. Ali labeled Akhtar ‘ugly as f**k’ after a video of the latter advising Hindus against adopting characteristics of Muslims gained traction. Ali subsequently offered a cryptic apology, citing that ‘monsters may have feelings too’ and expressing regret for offending ‘anybody’s monstrosity’.
The controversy began when an old video showed Javed Akhtar speaking at an event about contemporary India’s socio-political climate. In the clip, he advised Hindus, ‘Don’t become like Muslims. Make them like yourself.’ This statement quickly circulated online, drawing varied reactions.
Lucky Ali voiced his displeasure in a comment on a social media post sharing the video. His critique was specifically linked to Akhtar’s discussion of a scene from the classic film ‘Sholay.’ Akhtar used the scene to illustrate how certain artistic expressions might not be possible in the current climate.
Later, Lucky Ali clarified his stance on X, stating, ‘What I meant was that arrogance is ugly…. it was a mistaken communique on my part…. monsters may have feelings too and I apologise if I hurt anyone’s monstrosity…….’ This follow-up message aimed to contextualize his initial harsh remark while maintaining a somewhat enigmatic tone.
