A legal challenge has emerged for the much-anticipated spy-action thriller ‘Dhurandhar,’ featuring Ranveer Singh in the lead role. The Delhi High Court has instructed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to re-evaluate the film following concerns brought forth by the parents of the late Major Mohit Sharma.
The petitioners are seeking to halt the film’s certification and release, citing potential unauthorized depictions of real individuals. They contend that the film may be portraying actual people without obtaining the necessary permissions, a claim that has prompted judicial intervention.
The High Court’s directive mandates that the CBFC must give due consideration to all points raised by the late Major’s parents. This review process is crucial before any certification can be granted, leaving the film’s clearance in limbo.
Furthermore, the court indicated that if the film touches upon matters concerning the army, the perspective of military authorities, including the ADGPI, should also be sought and submitted to the CBFC. This collaborative approach aims for a comprehensive assessment.
Legal counsel for the petitioners pointed out that the teaser already showcases a character evidently based on Major Mohit Sharma, suggesting a significant reliance on his life story. The objection is rooted in the principle of consent and the potential misrepresentation of real individuals.
‘Dhurandhar,’ a spy thriller, is written and directed by Aditya Dhar. The film is produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios and features a star-studded cast including Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal.
