Following its theatrical run, the Rajinikanth film ‘Coolie’ is expected to be released on Prime Video. Although the official date has not been announced, it’s projected to be available on OTT platforms sometime in October or November 2025. This timeline is based on the standard practice of releasing films on digital platforms between 45 to 60 days after their premiere in theaters.
The film stars Rajinikanth, and includes Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy, and Kaali Venkat. Aamir Khan makes a cameo appearance. The production is spearheaded by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.
The plot of ‘Coolie’ revolves around Deva, a former gold smuggler who is now a coolie. Deva aims to revive his old gang using stolen technology hidden in vintage golden watches, seeking to regain his past status, but he faces unexpected challenges.
‘Coolie’ garnered attention when it received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) due to violent scenes. The director’s previous films, ‘Leo’ and ‘Vikram,’ received ‘U/A’ certificates, which was a surprise to many.
Furthermore, there are reports that Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj might collaborate again with Kamal Haasan. This project is expected to be a gangster drama, produced by Kamal Haasan’s production house, and it will focus on the intertwining lives of aging gangsters.
