The Indian box office saw a major clash on August 14, 2025, with the release of ‘War 2,’ starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, and Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie.’ Both films were highly anticipated and enjoyed successful opening weekends, emerging as major contenders for the year. However, the weekdays brought a notable decline in collections for both movies.
‘War 2’ had a strong start, earning Rs 52 crore on its opening day (Thursday), with significant contributions from Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil-speaking regions. Day 2 (Friday) saw a further increase to Rs 57.35 crore. However, the weekend witnessed a drop, with Rs 33.25 crore earned on Saturday and Rs 32.15 crore on Sunday. Day 5 (Monday) saw a steep decline, with early estimates placing earnings at just Rs 8.50 crore, despite the overall collection reaching Rs 183.25 crore within five days.
The film ‘War 2’ is a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster ‘War,’ starring Hrithik Roshan and introduces NTR Jr. alongside Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana.
‘Coolie,’ starring Rajinikanth, also opened strongly, earning Rs 65 crore on its first day. Day 2 earnings were Rs 54.75 crore. The film earned Rs 35.25 crore on Sunday. Monday brought a significant drop, with estimates of Rs 12 crore, yet the film’s total collection reached Rs 206.50 crore in the first five days.
The plot of ‘Coolie’ follows Deva, a former gold smuggler seeking to regain his past by reviving his old gang using stolen technology hidden in vintage golden watches. The film also features a cast including Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy, Kaali Venkat and a cameo by Aamir Khan.
