Imtiaz Ali’s biographical drama ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ was a double nominee at the 53rd International Emmy Awards, with a nomination for its lead actor Diljit Dosanjh in the ‘Best Performance by an Actor’ category and for the film in the ‘Best TV Movie/Mini-Series’ segment. The ceremony, held in New York City, concluded without a win for the Indian production. The film’s competition for ‘Best TV Movie/Mini-Series’ included ‘Herrhausen: The Banker and the Bomb’ (Germany), ‘Lost Boys and Fairies’ (UK), and ‘Vencer o Morir’ (Chile). The award was presented to the British entry, ‘Lost Boys and Fairies’. In the acting category, Diljit Dosanjh was nominated with David Mitchell (‘Ludwig’), Oriol Pla (‘Yo, adicto’), and Diego Vasquez (‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’). The award for ‘Best Performance by an Actor’ was secured by Oriol Pla of Spain. Despite not clinching the awards, both Dosanjh and Ali made a notable presence on the red carpet. Dosanjh greeted photographers with his characteristic ‘namaste’. Executives from Netflix India, such as Monika Shergill and Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, also attended the prestigious event. Prior to the awards, Imtiaz Ali had spoken about the film, characterizing it as a depiction of the deep connection between a performer and their art, driven by a passion for creation itself.
