Information has surfaced regarding the film ‘Abir Gulal,’ starring Vaani Kapoor and Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. The release of the movie in India was postponed due to the attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. This film marked Fawad Khan’s Bollywood comeback after a nine-year absence. Consequently, the Indian film industry restricted opportunities for Pakistani actors. Initially scheduled for release on May 9, 2025, the film’s premiere was delayed. Recent reports suggest that the film is now set for a global release, likely to occur this month.
Following the Pahalgam attack, the future of ‘Abir Gulal’ was uncertain. However, a report from Biz Asia Live indicates that the film is ready for release, specifically during August. The film is adopting a strategy similar to the one used by Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Sardaar Ji 3,’ which was highly profitable.
According to the latest report, ‘Abir Gulal’ is scheduled to be released in cinemas worldwide on August 29. The title of the film is also expected to be changed to ‘Aabeer Gulaal’ from its current title. Considering the existing public sentiment against Pakistani actors, there is little likelihood of a release in India. However, plans are being made for a release outside of India, similar to the strategy followed by ‘Sardaar Ji 3.’ This film, starring Diljit, was not released in India because it featured Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, but it performed well globally and broke several records in Pakistan.
Furthermore, the Punjabi film ‘Chal Mera Putt 4’ was released outside of India and achieved considerable commercial success. The effectiveness of this strategy for ‘Abir Gulal’ remains to be seen. Before the Pahalgam attack, promotional activities for Vaani Kapoor’s film were in full swing, and there was anticipation surrounding Fawad Khan’s return. However, the events of the attack changed everything. Two days after the attack, the audio company Saregama removed the film’s songs, and the release was subsequently postponed. The accuracy of the details in this report and the specific international release plans for the film are yet to be confirmed.
