Bollywood actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have taken legal action against YouTube and its parent company, Google, by filing a petition in Delhi High Court. The couple is seeking ₹4 crore in damages in their respective petitions. The petitions further request that the court take action against any content hosted and monetized by YouTube that portrays them inaccurately, misuses their voices, or features AI-generated deepfake videos.
The petition also urges the court to instruct Google to prevent the utilization of manipulated content for the training of artificial intelligence and to take corrective measures. The legal filing, dated September 6, emphasizes the potential for infringing content used to train AI models to proliferate. Such content, the petition asserts, will first surface on YouTube for public consumption and subsequently be exploited for AI training purposes.
The legal action targets not only deepfake videos but also unauthorized merchandise, including posters, mugs, stickers, and fake autographed photos, sold by less prominent vendors. The petition presents numerous YouTube video links and screenshots, alleging the presence of sexually suggestive or fabricated AI-generated content.
One example of AI misuse depicts Abhishek Bachchan unexpectedly kissing an actress. Another video presents Aishwarya Rai Bachchan dining with her ex-boyfriend, Salman Khan, with Abhishek depicted as angry. The petition references a YouTube channel, AI Bollywood Ishq, which allegedly hosts over 259 such videos, amassing 16.5 million views. One particular video showing Aishwarya and Salman in a pool has garnered over 4 million views. The channel states its content is created purely for entertainment and storytelling.
The Delhi High Court, during a hearing last month, has directed Google’s legal counsel to respond. The next hearing is scheduled for January 15, 2026. The court has also ordered the removal of 518 links and posts that the actors have identified as harmful, citing financial and reputational damage.
