It is noteworthy that about 100 days later, the first cabinet of the Shivraj government was expanded on 2 July. 20 cabinet and 8 ministers of state were sworn in. The Chief Minister and Jyotiraditya Scindia could not agree on the division of portfolios among their camp ministers. After this, on 5 July, the Chief Minister went to Delhi to discuss with the central leaders on the division of departments in the Cabinet.
Chief minister stays in Delhi for two days
During the two-day visit to Delhi, the Chief Minister said after meeting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the afternoon of July 5 that he would distribute the portfolios of ministers as soon as he returned to Bhopal. Meanwhile, he met all the Union ministers including the President, Vice President and senior party leaders. Jyotiraditya met Scindia as Chief Minister, he met BJP National President JP Nadda thrice. The Chief Minister was scheduled to return on Monday afternoon. After this, there was news of his return three times in the night but the Chief Minister did not return. The Chief Minister, who returned from Delhi at around 11 am on Tuesday morning, said that he would do more homework in the division of ministers’ portfolios. We will divide the departments in a day or two.
Case stuck here
It is being told that Jyotiraditya Scindia wants weighty portfolios for his camp ministers. Even after two days of hard work in Delhi, it could not be decided which departments would remain with the BJP and what would go in the MP Jyotiraditya Scindia camp? It is being told that much of the quarrel is with Urban Development, PWD, Revenue, Health, Transport, Water Resources, PHE, Commercial Tax, Excise, School Education and Women and Child Development Department. Now Chief Minister Chauhan will return to Bhopal on Tuesday morning.
Departments with independent charge asked for state ministers
Sources say that Scindia has asked for large portfolios for 7 cabinet ministers, as well as clarified that 4 ministers of state have independent charge of some departments. Department has also to be given to Hardeep Singh Dung, Bisahulal Singh and Andal Singh Kansana who came from Congress to BJP. The Chief Minister wants that Bisahulal and Andal also get some portfolios, in this case also the central leadership has to decide.
Scindia reached her house late night to meet Sahastrabuddhe
Meanwhile, Scindia reached his residence late in the night to meet state in-charge Vinay Sahastrabuddhe. It is believed that Sahastrabuddhe has spoken to Scindia about some departments. Departments will be announced on Tuesday if consent is reached.
The central leadership does not agree with the department that Shivraj wants
Sources say that the Chief Minister also wants to keep some departments including Commercial Tax, Excise, Women and Child Development, Transport, Energy, Industry, Water Resources, Narmada Valley Development with his close ministers. The central leadership is not ready on this. Though the state organization has suggested some new names, the final decision is to be taken by Nadda and Santosh.
