Bilaspur: The first case of Human Metanumovirus (HMPV) has come to light in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. The infection was found in a three -and -a -half -year -old child, a resident of Korba district. According to Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Pramod Tiwari, on January 27, the child had difficulty in winter, cough and breathing, after which he was admitted to a private hospital in Bilaspur.
The doctors were sent to AIIMS Raipur for investigation in case of possibility of virus, where the report confirmed the HMPV infection. After the report, the child was separated from other patients and kept in the ICU. Currently, his condition is stable.
The Health Department has also kept the other three children in the child’s family under supervision, although there are no symptoms of infection. In addition, the administration has issued an alert in Bilaspur district, vigilance and survey is being done in the area of Korba from where the child came.
HMPV is primarily affecting the respiratory system, which can be more dangerous for young children, elderly and people with weak immunity. The Health Department is keeping a close watch on the matter and taking necessary steps to prevent possible infection.
