The cafe racer segment in India is set to welcome a new entrant on August 6th: the Triumph Thruxton 400. This model will follow the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X, which have established themselves in the entry-level premium market. The Thruxton 400 is expected to add more options to the existing lineup.
This new motorcycle will be the third model from Triumph’s 400cc platform, developed with Bajaj Auto. The Thruxton 400 will be a direct competitor to bikes such as the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450.
The Thruxton 400 will utilize the same 398cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine as the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X. This engine produces 39.5 bhp of power and 37.5 Nm of torque, coupled with a 6-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch. It is possible that the Thruxton will feature a retuned engine for improved sporty performance and throttle response.
The Triumph Speed 400 is priced at ₹2.40 lakh and the Scrambler 400X at ₹2.65 lakh (ex-showroom). Given the Thruxton 400’s premium design and positioning, its price could be approximately ₹2.80 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most expensive model in Triumph’s 400cc line-up in India.
Spy shots of the Triumph Thruxton 400 have already appeared on social media, revealing a retro, stylish design in the British style. The front fairing, reminiscent of fighter jets, and a round LED headlight contribute to its striking appearance. With low-set clip-on handlebars and slightly rear-set footpegs, the Thruxton 400 should provide a sporty riding position, expected of a cafe racer.
