The Suzuki Jimny began its export journey five months post-launch, initially targeting Latin America and the Middle East. Significant market interest was recorded in Mexico, Australia, and South Africa. The Gurgaon, Haryana, plant continues to produce the three-door Jimny model for export since 2020. While its domestic performance in India has been subdued, the Jimny has enjoyed considerable success in Japan under the ‘Nomade’ moniker. The Jimny, following the Suzuki Fronx, was the second SUV exported to Japan, where it received 50,000 pre-orders soon after bookings opened, forcing a temporary suspension of further orders. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) will be deploying Suzuki Jimnys. These vehicles are destined for operations in the extreme climates of Arunachal Pradesh and Leh Ladakh. The Jimny is engineered to perform effectively in temperatures as low as -45 degrees. The vehicle’s low and high-range gearboxes further facilitate challenging drives across harsh terrains. Equipped with a 4×4 powertrain and an AllGrip 4WD system, the Jimny offers multiple drive modes, including 2WD-high, 4WD High, and 4WD low. Its three-link rigid axle suspension enhances stability. Powered by a 1.5-liter engine with 105 BHP and 134Nm of torque, the Jimny’s light build enhances its off-road performance. The price range is between Rs 12.76 lakh and Rs 14.97 lakh. The Jimny’s design, encompassing a small footprint and lightweight nature, makes it a highly effective off-road vehicle compared to rivals.
