Initially, he used a Mahindra Scorpio during his swearing-in in 2014, hinting at a preference for indigenous vehicles. However, following an upgrade to his security detail, the BMW 7 Series became his primary mode of transport.
The BMW 760Li High Security Edition was a key component of his security detail. This armored vehicle could withstand high-caliber attacks, including AK-47s, and offered underbody protection. The car’s run-flat tires allowed it to operate at speeds up to 80 km/h, even when damaged. The 760Li boasted a 6.0-litre V12 engine, producing approximately 544 BHP and 750 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds.
Later, the Range Rover Sentinel was introduced, tailored to Indian state requirements. It appeared on the 71st Independence Day and is designed to withstand assaults and IEDs. Run-flat tires enable it to maintain speeds up to 80 km/h, even when damaged, and cover a distance exceeding 50 km. The Sentinel uses a 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 petrol engine, producing 380 PS. Despite its armor, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds.
Land Cruisers are part of India’s high-security fleet. The Prime Minister has been seen using an armored version, first appearing at the Red Fort in 2019. It may be powered by a 4.5-litre V8 engine, capable of 260 HP and 650 Nm of torque.
More recently, the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Guard, certified with VR10 ballistic standards, debuted in 2021. The sedan is built to withstand armor-piercing bullets and TNT attacks, featuring reinforced seals and options like satellite phones and oxygen canisters. This car is powered by a 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 engine that delivers 630 BHP.
