In a strategic move to strengthen its presence in India’s electric vehicle sector, Tesla is preparing to inaugurate its second retail center in the country. The new Tesla Experience Centre, located in Delhi’s Aerocity at the WorldMark 3 campus, is set to open on August 11. This expansion aims to serve customers in the National Capital Region, which is considered crucial for India’s EV initiatives. This latest launch follows the opening of the first showroom in Mumbai on July 15 at the Maker Maxity Mall, which was attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He welcomed Tesla to the state and encouraged investment in R&D and manufacturing facilities. The Aerocity center is nearing its final construction phases. The monthly rent for the facility is approximately Rs 25 lakh. Pre-launch images circulating online reflect the brand’s premium image. Tesla currently sells only the Model Y in India, with prices starting from Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The Model Y offers two variants: the Standard rear-wheel drive, featuring a 60 kWh battery and a 500 km WLTP-certified range, and the Long-range rear-wheel drive, with a 75 kWh battery capable of a 622 km range. Initial deliveries will focus on key cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram, with vehicles delivered directly to buyers via flat-bed trucks. Tesla has also updated its website to allow vehicle registration across all Indian states and union territories. The Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature is available as an optional add-on on the website, priced at Rs 6 lakh, although its full implementation in India will come later. The Model Y launch also signals the introduction of Tesla’s India website, demonstrating the company’s determination to grow its Indian operations amidst EV policy and infrastructure hurdles.
