In September 2025, the Tata Nexon compact SUV showcased exceptional performance, surpassing sales figures of prominent brands like Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, and Hyundai. It emerged as the top-selling passenger vehicle in India. The Nexon’s impressive sales of 22,573 units not only secured its leading position but also established a new monthly sales record for Tata Motors.
The boost in sales can be attributed to the implementation of GST 2.0, which reduced the Nexon’s price by up to Rs 1.55 lakh. Moreover, the company rolled out several customer offers. The introductory price for the Nexon now starts at Rs 7.32 lakh (ex-showroom), enhancing its affordability.
The Nexon has consistently demonstrated strong performance within the compact SUV segment. In FY22, the vehicle recorded sales of 1.24 lakh units, followed by 1.72 lakh units in FY23 and 1.71 lakh units in FY24. Despite a minor decrease to 1.63 lakh units in FY25, the demand remained substantial. Approximately 90,000 units were sold in the initial six months of FY26.
A key differentiator for the Nexon is its availability with petrol, diesel, CNG, and electric powertrains. The petrol variant features a 1.2L turbo engine with 120bhp, offered with multiple gearbox options. The diesel model incorporates a 1.5L engine, generating 115bhp and 260Nm of torque. The CNG version utilizes a 1.2L engine producing 100bhp and a 6MT gearbox. The Nexon.ev electric variant comes with 30kWh and 45kWh battery options offering ranges of 350km and 489km, respectively.
The Nexon’s safety profile is a significant advantage. All variants, including petrol, diesel, and EV models, have earned a 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP. Notable features include LED projector headlamps, ventilated seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, a voice-controlled sunroof, wireless charging, 6 airbags, ESP, a 360° camera, a blind-spot monitor, tire pressure alert, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlamps, and cornering fog lamps.
Tata Motors achieved its highest monthly sales in September 2025, reaching 60,907 units, driven by the Nexon’s robust performance. The company’s Q2 FY26 sales reached 1.44 lakh units, reflecting a 10% growth compared to the previous year. The EV segment also saw a record, with 24,855 electric vehicles sold, which represented 17% of total PV sales, and a 411% increase in exports.
The Nexon’s affordability, diverse fuel options, superior safety features, and advanced technology make it the most reliable car for Tata Motors. The sales figures from September 2025 confirm the Tata Nexon’s dominance in the Indian compact SUV market.
