North Gujarat has rapidly gained recognition as a key automobile manufacturing hub in India. Suzuki Motor Gujarat has been instrumental in this transformation, with its Mehsana-based factory capable of producing around 750,000 cars each year. The plant is crucial for both domestic sales and exports. Suzuki plans to invest approximately ₹3,200 crore in a fourth production line, with an emphasis on electric vehicle production. This investment is part of a broader plan that includes a ₹7,300 crore battery plant and a ₹3,100 crore EV manufacturing unit.
Gujarat successfully drew major automobile companies between 2012 and 2015. The pivotal moment was in 2014 when Suzuki partnered with the state government to build a mega plant. The company has made significant investments since, providing jobs and developing a robust auto component ecosystem. The Suzuki Motor Gujarat plant is now among the largest automobile production facilities in India. Gujarat’s efficient port infrastructure has also made it an important export center. In 2024, vehicles valued at around ₹3,459 crore were exported to nations like South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Japan, the UAE, and Chile. The state government will highlight these achievements at the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conferences (VGRC), aiming to attract global investment in the Gujarat automotive sector and related industries. Suzuki’s increased investment and focus on EV production are expected to open a new chapter for the automotive sector in both Gujarat and India as a whole.
