A passenger on a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru was unexpectedly confined to the aircraft’s lavatory for the entire journey. The airline has issued an apology and offered a refund following the unusual situation, which has prompted widespread online reactions.
The passenger was eventually rescued after the flight touched down at Bengaluru airport, with ground staff and engineers opening the malfunctioning toilet door.
The incident took place on a Monday night flight, delayed by two hours. It took off from Mumbai at 2:10 AM, rather than the scheduled 10:55 PM.
The event began when a passenger in seat 14D entered the restroom shortly after takeoff. The door lock jammed, trapping the passenger. Despite attempts by the passenger and the crew to unlock the door, it remained stuck.
To comfort the trapped passenger, the crew passed a handwritten note under the door. The note instructed the passenger not to panic and to stay seated on the toilet until the flight landed in Bengaluru.
The crew’s message was shared on social media and swiftly went viral. Many people found the note humorous, and others praised the handwriting.
The flight landed in Bengaluru at approximately 3:45 AM, and an airport engineer was able to open the door. The airline has since offered its apologies for the incident, and apologized for the inconvenience caused to the passenger.
