An unusual incident occurred on a Mumbai to Bengaluru SpiceJet flight when a passenger was unexpectedly confined to the airplane’s lavatory for the duration of the journey. SpiceJet has issued an apology to the affected passenger and reportedly offered compensation, but the situation has captured the attention of many.
The passenger was eventually ‘rescued’ upon the flight’s arrival at Bengaluru airport. Ground staff and engineers promptly intervened to open the locked toilet door, which had malfunctioned mid-flight.
The event reportedly transpired on a Monday night flight, which experienced a two-hour delay, finally taking off from Mumbai at 2:10 AM. The incident began when a passenger seated in 14D entered the restroom shortly after takeoff. The door lock failed, trapping the passenger.
While the passenger made multiple attempts to open the door, and the crew tried to help, the lock remained stuck. The crew decided to slip a handwritten note through the door gap, assuring the passenger to remain seated on the toilet until the plane reached Bengaluru.
The crew’s message circulated widely on social media, leading to amusement and comments. The flight landed in Bengaluru around 3:45 AM. Airport engineers then opened the door. SpiceJet has issued an apology for the incident.
