NHAI’s annual toll pass, priced at Rs 3,000 for private vehicles, provides either 200 toll-free trips or a year-long validity. A Noida resident has showcased the pass’s potential by completing a remarkable solo road trip and sharing his experience on social media.
The individual covered approximately 11,000 kilometers in just 25 days in his Mahindra Thar. His journey included travel through 13 states, encompassing visits to 12 Jyotirlingas and four Dhams. He humorously suggested he deserved an award for effectively using the annual pass.
Initially, the pass provided 199 trips, with 80 trips remaining at the end of the journey, indicating the crossing of around 119 toll plazas. He estimated that the trip would have cost between Rs 15,000 and Rs 17,000 in tolls, but the pass provided significant savings.
It’s important to note that the pass wasn’t accepted everywhere. He paid Rs 1,200 extra on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway and an additional Rs 2,400 in Tamil Nadu and other areas. He also traveled about 200 kilometers more to enjoy the roads, leading to increased diesel costs. Despite this, he considered the pass highly advantageous.
The video, which went live on Instagram on September 24, quickly gained popularity, accumulating over 1 million views. Social media users applauded his feat. One user described it as an accomplishment, while another shared their own positive experience with the pass. Some individuals inquired about the necessity of paying extra tolls with an annual pass.
NHAI regulations restrict this pass to private vehicles, including cars, jeeps, and vans. A linked, non-blacklisted Fastag is required. Vehicles registered only by chassis number must update their details. Commercial vehicles, such as buses and trucks, are excluded from this scheme.
The Noida resident’s adventure highlights the cost-effectiveness of the NHAI annual toll pass for extended trips. While some limitations exist, strategic usage can lead to substantial financial benefits for travelers.
