The sub-4 meter SUV category is intensely competitive, and a wave of new models is on the way. These upcoming vehicles include both electric and gasoline-powered options, with several already in testing phases. Some have been showcased ahead of their official release.
The next-generation Hyundai Venue, targeted for an October 2025 release, is currently undergoing road tests in India. This new model will replace the existing Venue, which was updated in 2022. Spy shots hint at a larger infotainment screen, similar to the Creta’s design. While the engine options are expected to remain the same, expect a price increase from the current levels.
The Kia Syros EV is another anticipated model, spotted in testing in Korea. It seems to share design cues with its gasoline-powered counterpart. The vehicle will use the reinforced K1 platform and will likely have a similar interior but will incorporate battery packs from the Hyundai Inster. Two battery options are anticipated – a 42 kWh and a 49 kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) pack, with estimated ranges of approximately 300 km and 355 km, respectively. Pricing could be in the ₹14–20 lakh range.
The Hyundai Bayon crossover will slot between the Exter and Venue models in the Hyundai lineup. Built on the i20 platform, it’s expected to share its engine lineup with the i20 hatchback. It is reported that the 1.2-liter petrol engine may incorporate mild-hybrid technology to boost efficiency and performance. The Hyundai Bayon is slated for launch in the next year.
Tata is planning to launch the all-new Tata Nexon soon. The SUV, codenamed Garud, is based on the X1 architecture. The car is slated to be released in 2027. It is expected to have design updates similar to those seen in other Tata SUVs, and will be available with petrol and CNG powertrains. It remains unclear whether the existing 1.5L engines will continue to be used or if new hybrid technology will be introduced. Diesel engines, if they are offered, will be adapted to meet BS7 emission regulations.
Manufacturers have expressed their intention to launch these models within the next year, but some delays may occur due to issues such as rare-earth metal shortages and supply chain challenges.
While Toyota has not disclosed details on a new-generation Toyota Fortuner, market anticipation indicates a possible launch. The new Fortuner might include features such as a head-up display, ADAS technology, and ventilated seats. Styling accents will likely resemble those of the current-generation Hilux and other models sold internationally.
