A new SUV from Maruti Suzuki is set to debut in India on September 3rd, entering the competitive compact SUV market. This new offering will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun. The new SUV is slated to sit between the Brezza and the Grand Vitara in Maruti Suzuki’s lineup. Based on the Suzuki’s Global C platform, similar to the Grand Vitara, the new SUV is anticipated to feature dimensions comparable to the GV. Spy shots reveal the Escudo with all-new DRL headlamps and headlights, along with a high-set hoodline. Engine options will likely include a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid engine, potentially producing approximately 101hp and 137 NM of torque. Buyers will also have the option of a CNG powertrain, providing up to 86hp and 121.5Nm of torque. There is a possibility that the SUV will also be available with the 1.5-litre strong hybrid electric powertrain found in the Grand Vitara. The petrol-only version is expected to be equipped with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox, while a hybrid version may feature an eCVT automatic transmission. Safety features are likely to include Level 2 ADAS in higher trims, six airbags, and active safety systems. Expect premium features like digital displays, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, and ventilated front seats.
