Starting August 15th, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is introducing an annual FASTag pass system designed to ease toll payments on National Highways and Expressways across India. This pass promises significant savings for frequent travelers, but potential buyers should be aware of specific conditions.
The pass requires a one-time payment of ₹3,000, granting users the ability to cross tolls up to 200 times or for a period of one year. This translates to an average toll cost of ₹15 per crossing, a considerable reduction compared to the usual charges, which often surpass ₹50. For 200 toll crossings, the standard cost would amount to ₹10,000, but the pass limits the expense to ₹3,000, yielding savings of ₹7,000.
Important Guidelines:
1. The FASTag annual pass is exclusively for private vehicle owners, including those with jeeps, cars, and vans. It is not available for buses, trucks, or taxis.
2. The pass is vehicle-specific and cannot be transferred. It is valid only for the registered vehicle it is associated with.
3. The annual pass is applicable only on NHAI-operated National Highways and Expressways, and not on state or municipal roads, including state expressways.
4. The annual pass purchase is non-refundable. No refunds will be issued after purchase. Renewal will be required upon expiry, with a new payment.
How to Acquire the Pass:
To purchase the pass, vehicle owners should log in to the Highway Yatra app, or visit the NHAI or MoRTH websites, using their vehicle number and FASTag ID. Ensure an active and properly installed FASTag is in place. Payments of ₹3,000 can be completed online through UPI, debit or credit cards, or net banking.
