The launch date for Maruti Suzuki’s new SUV, the Victoris, has been set for September 3rd. The vehicle, previously rumored to be the Escudo, will instead bear the name Victoris, confirmed by a trademark and an internal codename of Y17. The name was revealed through a brief appearance on Maruti Suzuki’s official website. Positioned between the Brezza and the Grand Vitara within Maruti’s range, the Victoris will leverage Suzuki’s Global C platform, offering potential cost advantages. The new SUV may be slightly larger than its competitors, the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The compact SUV market is competitive, with upcoming facelifts of the Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun intensifying the rivalry. Suzuki plans to stand out through its pricing and features. Engine options will be drawn from the Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder. These options include a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine generating 103 PS and 139 Nm of torque, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission, as well as the possibility of Suzuki AllGrip AWD. There will also be a 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrain. The Victoris will be sold in Suzuki’s Arena showrooms. A CNG variant is also anticipated. The Hyundai Creta currently holds a significant market share. The official launch is scheduled for September 3rd, 2025.
