Maruti Suzuki, the leading automotive manufacturer in India, is aiming to export more than 400,000 vehicles in the fiscal year 2025-26 (FY26). This ambitious goal follows a strong performance in the first half of the year, with over 200,000 units already shipped abroad from April to September 2025. This information was disclosed by a senior executive within the company.
In September 2025, Maruti Suzuki India Limited saw a substantial increase in exports, with 42,204 vehicles shipped, a 52% jump compared to the 27,728 units exported in September of the previous year. According to Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer (Corporate Affairs) at Maruti Suzuki India, the company exported roughly 110,000 vehicles in the first quarter (Q1) and a total of over 207,000 units in the six-month period from April to September. The company is progressing well towards its target of 400,000 units.
Bharti also noted that Maruti Suzuki’s export numbers are twice that of its nearest competitor. He pointed out the competitive nature of the Indian market, which includes around 18 different automotive companies. He emphasized that Maruti Suzuki’s export figures significantly surpass those of the second-largest exporter in the country. Drawing parallels between its domestic success and its growing international presence, Bharti indicated that the company is expanding its reach in foreign markets. He observed that, in just the second quarter, the company managed to export over 100,000 units, compared to approximately 100,000 units exported annually just four years ago. In FY21, the company exported 96,139 units.
The company’s electric eVITARA also contributed to export figures, with 6,068 units shipped in August and September 2025. Bharti highlighted that this demonstrates the strength of ‘Make in India,’ as vehicles manufactured in India are gaining recognition globally. He also mentioned the benefits of recent Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) signed by India, which have helped in boosting exports.
The top-exported models during the first half of FY26 were the Fronx, Jimny, Swift, Baleno, and Dzire. South Africa, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Chile, and Colombia remain key international markets for Maruti Suzuki.
