Mahindra is preparing a new pickup truck to directly challenge the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max V-Cross in the Indian market. This new vehicle represents Mahindra’s latest foray into the pickup segment, although the company hasn’t yet achieved substantial market share in this vehicle category. The original concept, based on the Scorpio-N, was unveiled two years ago. Recent sightings of a fully camouflaged test model on Indian roads provide further insight. The truck’s significant length, exceeding 5.50 meters, is one of its defining features, making it larger than its rivals. The test model displays notable differences from the Scorpio-N, particularly in the front design. It’s anticipated that the pickup will be available in both single and dual cab configurations; the test model observed was a single cab variant. The front design utilizes a mesh grille and halogen headlights similar to those found on older Ambassador models. The bonnet design is carried over from the Scorpio-N, but it has a slightly rounded appearance. The prototype uses 18-inch steel wheels, indicating that it may be a lower or mid-spec variant. The earlier concept vehicles had all-terrain tires, but the test model has conventional road tires. The new pickup is expected to use the same ladder-on-frame chassis as the Scorpio-N, but with altered suspension for carrying heavier cargo. The interior, including the dashboard and other features, will be largely based on the Scorpio-N.
