The legacy of Kinetic scooters, once a staple for those seeking gearless mobility, may be revived with a new electric scooter. The original Kinetic scooter, a collaboration between Kinetic Engineering Limited and Honda Motor Company from 1984 to 1998, featured a 98cc 2-stroke engine. This engine offered 7.7 hp at 5600 rpm and a maximum torque of 1.0 KGm at 5000 rpm, providing a mileage of 40 kmpl.
Rumors suggest that Kinetic is planning to re-enter the market with an EV version of the scooter. This venture will likely be undertaken by Kinetic Green and Kinetic Watts and Volts. Kinetic Watts has recently patented a new electric scooter, potentially signaling a re-launch. The new EV is intended to compete with leading electric scooters such as Hero, Ather, TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, and Ola S1. The design will likely draw inspiration from the Kinetic Honda ZX model, retaining its recognizable silhouette, including the angular headlights, square ORVMs and spacious floorboards. Kinetic has set up a manufacturing unit in Ahilya Nagar, Maharashtra, to support the increased production, targeting the expanding electric scooter market.
