The Kia Syros EV, an upcoming electric vehicle, was recently spotted during testing in India. The sighting took place at a charging station in Kochi, where the vehicle was heavily camouflaged to conceal its design. Despite the disguise, some design features were discernible, including the window line, roof rails, pillars, shark fin antenna, and body-colored ORVMs. These elements closely resemble those found in the internal combustion engine (ICE) version.
Subtle modifications are expected for the EV design, such as changes to the front grille and the integration of a charging port. The electric SUV might also sport EV badging and green brake calipers, as seen in prior test models. It’s likely that the dimensions of the compact electric SUV will remain unchanged.
Inside, minor alterations are anticipated. The Kia Syros EV could feature new trim and upholstery, alongside an instrument cluster tailored with EV-specific software. The feature set is expected to be similar to the ICE-powered version, potentially positioning it as a leader in its segment regarding features and spaciousness.
Details regarding the Syros EV’s battery specifications are currently unavailable. Nonetheless, reports hint at a shared powertrain with the Hyundai Exter EV, planned for a 2026 launch in the Indian market. Globally, the Exter EV is offered with two NMC battery pack options: 42kWh and 49kWh, which could deliver ranges of 300 km and 355 km.
When launched, the Kia Syros EV will contend with rivals such as the MG ZS EV and Tata Punch EV. It is anticipated to be a highly competitive electric vehicle in India, with prices possibly starting around ₹14 lakh for the base model and reaching up to ₹20 lakh for the premium trims. The Carens Clavis EV currently holds the position of Kia’s most accessible electric SUV in India, priced from ₹17.99 lakh to ₹24.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
