Kawasaki has announced a major price reduction for the KLX 230 in the Indian market, making the off-road motorcycle more accessible. The price has been slashed by ₹1.30 lakh, bringing the ex-showroom price down to ₹1.99 lakh from its previous price of ₹3.33 lakh. This move makes the KLX 230 a strong contender in its segment, particularly against the Hero Xpulse 200.
The price reduction is a result of Kawasaki’s decision to manufacture the KLX 230 in India. The company has not made any changes to the motorcycle’s mechanical components and features, ensuring it retains its reputation as a top-performing dual-sport machine.
The ‘Made in India’ Kawasaki KLX 230 retains its telescopic front suspension and monoshock rear suspension, offering travel capabilities of around 240mm and 250mm, respectively. It utilizes a 21-18 wire-spoke wheel setup, with a ground clearance of 265mm. The bike features disc brakes on both wheels and a 7.6-liter fuel tank.
The motorcycle is powered by a single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. This 233cc engine produces 18 bhp and 18 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. Despite the engine’s specifications, the combination of the engine’s performance, the KLX 230’s 136 kg weight, and the long-travel suspension make it an excellent off-roader.
The primary rival to the Kawasaki KLX 230 in India is the Hero Xpulse 200. With an ex-showroom price of ₹1.75 lakh, the Xpulse 200 offers a similar setup, including long-travel suspension at both ends, providing 210mm travel at the front and 205mm at the rear. It also features a 21-18 wire-spoke wheel setup, a high fender, a sleek design, and disc brakes on both ends, along with dual-channel ABS.
The Xpulse features a 200cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that generates 24 bhp and 21 Nm of torque, coupled with a 6-speed gearbox. Although the Xpulse 200 has more power than the KLX 230, it also weighs more, at 170 kg.
