A cyberattack has forced Jaguar and Land Rover to halt production across all global factories for three weeks. The attack, which occurred on September 1, has affected all aspects of the brand’s operations, including production, parts procurement, and retail. Daily losses are estimated to be around Rs 60 crore.
The initial impact of the attack was felt by the dealers. The company responded by shutting down systems to contain the issue on September 2.
The hacker group Scattered Lapsus$ has claimed responsibility for the attack on JLR, and also targeted Marks and Spencer. JLR has confirmed customer data was breached. Authorities and cybersecurity experts are aiding the restoration of operations. Production is expected to be halted until at least September 24. The disruption is also impacting suppliers, potentially leading to bankruptcies. Aston Martin’s CEO has warned of potential layoffs in the automotive sector due to the disruption.
