Following supply chain issues related to rare-earth magnets from China, Bajaj Auto has restarted production of the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter. This announcement aims to provide customers with readily available scooters and sufficient stock for dealerships, aligning with the upcoming festive season.
In July 2025, Chetak production saw a significant downturn, decreasing nearly 47% year-on-year to 10,824 units. The primary cause was a scarcity of essential magnets. Company representatives had previously indicated that August production might be severely impacted if supply did not stabilize. With the supply issue resolved, the company can now satisfy existing demand. Dealerships have also begun receiving shipments, ensuring that deliveries can proceed promptly based on existing orders.
The Chetak showcases a premium design, combining retro aesthetics with a fully electric powertrain. Features include LED lighting, a digital instrument panel, and smartphone integration for navigation and scooter diagnostics.
The electric motor provides excellent performance for urban commuting, coupled with a commendable range. Its lithium-ion battery supports practical daily use, and the regenerative braking system improves overall efficiency. The scooter is available in multiple configurations.
The pricing of the Bajaj Chetak remains unchanged. The production restart enables Bajaj to fulfill the anticipated demand during the festive period. The company is also poised to stay competitive in the market against companies like TVS, Ather Energy and Hero (Vida).
