The Mahindra Thar (3-door), a sought-after off-road SUV, is gearing up for a launch with significant upgrades in the coming weeks. Although the exact launch timeline remains undisclosed, the refreshed Thar is expected to hit the market by the end of September 2025. Spy shots of the 2025 Mahindra Thar during testing have provided insights into the upcoming changes.
The interior will see a major upgrade with the inclusion of a larger touchscreen infotainment system with the latest UI, an upgraded driver display, and a new electric steering wheel. The new Thar will also incorporate features from the Thar Rocks including a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, rear disc brakes, and Level-2 ADAS.
Design-wise, the 2025 Mahindra Thar will take cues from the Thar Rocks model. The front end will feature a fresh design with a double-stacked slat grille, revised bumpers, and new headlamps. Further design elements will include redesigned alloy wheels, new taillamps, and a redesigned rear bumper. The updated Thar model may also introduce new exterior paint schemes.
Under the hood, the 2025 Mahindra Thar is likely to retain its current engine choices. Potential buyers can select from three engine choices: a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine generating 152 bhp, a 1.5-liter turbo diesel with 119 bhp, and a 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine that produces 130 bhp. The transmission options are also anticipated to remain unchanged. The updated Thar 3-door will still be offered in both RWD and 4WD configurations, similar to the existing models.
