The highly anticipated spy thriller ‘Dhurandhar,’ starring Bollywood’s dynamic Ranveer Singh, has officially hit cinemas on December 5th, delivering a phenomenal box office performance on its opening day. The film has not only met but significantly exceeded industry expectations, solidifying its position as Ranveer Singh’s most successful opener to date.
According to preliminary box office reports, ‘Dhurandhar’ earned an outstanding ₹27 crore on its first day of release. This impressive figure comfortably outshines the opening day collections of other major films, including ‘Saiyaara,’ which opened to ₹21.50 crore. The film demonstrated robust audience engagement across India, with an overall occupancy rate of 33.81% in the Hindi market. The day started with a modest 15.49% occupancy in morning shows, but saw a remarkable escalation, reaching close to 60% by the night shows, highlighting strong positive audience reception and recommendations.
Prior to its release, trade pundits had forecast an opening day collection in the ₹15-18 crore range. ‘Dhurandhar’ has, therefore, dramatically surpassed these predictions. This monumental opening establishes ‘Dhurandhar’ as Ranveer Singh’s biggest opener, surpassing the successful debuts of his previous blockbusters. ‘Padmaavat’ had opened with ₹24 crore, and ‘Simmba’ with ₹20.72 crore.
Furthermore, ‘Dhurandhar’ has secured the second-highest opening of the current year, following ‘Chhaava,’ which garnered ₹31 crore on its opening day. The film, directed by Aditya Dhar, features an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh in a pivotal role, supported by Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal. The spy thriller’s gripping narrative and high-stakes action are proving to be a major draw for audiences, driving ticket sales. Fans are also eagerly anticipating its digital release, with sources suggesting a potential Netflix premiere around January 30, 2026, after its theatrical run concludes, though official details are yet to be announced.
