Aleema Khan, sister of imprisoned former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, has leveled explosive accusations against Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir. Speaking to Sky News, she depicted General Munir as a “radicalized Islamist” with a deep yearning for war against India. Khan stated that this conservative Islamic outlook drives Munir’s antagonism towards those who do not adhere to Islam.
Highlighting the difference between her brother and the military leader, Aleema Khan described Imran Khan as a “pure liberal” who always aimed to build bridges with India, even the BJP. She posited that under a liberal leadership like her brother’s, reconciliation with India would be pursued, whereas General Munir’s influence would inevitably drag the region into conflict.
Imran Khan, from his jail cell, echoed sentiments of animosity towards the Army Chief, calling him a “mentally unstable tyrant.” He accused Munir of fabricating charges to imprison him and his wife, Bushra Bibi, and detailed alleged mistreatment, including “severe mental torture” and conditions worse than those on death row. Khan contends that Munir’s leadership has been detrimental to Pakistan, exacerbating terrorism for personal gain.
