Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a pointed warning to Europe, stating Russia’s preparedness for war should European nations continue to impede efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine. Addressing an investment forum, Putin accused European leaders of actively undermining US-led peace talks by introducing unacceptable conditions into negotiations. He suggested that instead of seeking a peaceful resolution, these European allies are effectively supporting ongoing conflict. Putin’s remarks were timed to coincide with the arrival of a US delegation, comprising envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential adviser Jared Kushner, in Moscow for high-level discussions. The Russian President articulated his view that European nations lack a genuine peace agenda and are aligned with continued warfare. He specifically alleged that their modifications to peace proposals are designed to be unachievable for Russia, thereby halting the peace process and creating a narrative that blames Moscow. Putin also sought to allay fears of Russian aggression, affirming, ‘We are not planning to go to war with Europe, but if Europe wants to and starts, we are ready right now.’ The ongoing diplomatic efforts involve a revised US peace proposal, which has encountered reservations from Ukraine and its European partners.
