The second day of Parliament’s Winter Session is set to be a contentious one, with opposition parties signaling their intent to raise pressing issues. The Lok Sabha’s first day was marred by disruptions stemming from the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, prompting the house to adjourn repeatedly. The opposition’s demand for a discussion on this matter led to a complete washout of the day’s proceedings.
Looking ahead, Day 2 is expected to see heated exchanges over the critical environmental crisis in Delhi due to severe pollution, alongside the ongoing debate surrounding the SIR voter list irregularities. The opposition’s accusations of ‘vote chori’ are also likely to amplify the political temperature.
The Rajya Sabha, however, had a more formal start. The Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, officially took charge as Chairman. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Chairman’s valuable experience, and the Leader of the Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge, extended congratulations and assured support, urging fair proceedings for all members.
