Entrepreneur Upasana Kamineni Konidela, married to actor Ram Charan, has robustly defended her decision to freeze her eggs, framing it as a fundamental right rather than a display of privilege. The statement comes after she faced criticism on social media for her views on women prioritizing careers before starting families.
Upasana responded on X (formerly Twitter), appreciating the respectful dialogue her comments had generated. She announced her intention to further discuss the ‘pleasures/pressures of privilege’ and encouraged followers to review supporting facts she shared. Her posts posed critical questions about societal expectations, querying whether it is unfair for women to marry for love, delay motherhood to find the right partner, or pursue career ambitions before marriage and early childbearing.
She shared a personal timeline, noting her marriage at 27 and egg freezing at 29 for health and personal reasons, encouraging other women to consider their options. Upasana welcomed her first child at 36 and is now pregnant with twins at 39, emphasizing that she has consistently prioritized both her career and marriage to create a stable environment for her family. She asserted that her ability to balance these aspects and dictate her own timeline is a right, not a privilege.
Earlier, Upasana had advocated for egg freezing at an event, calling it the ‘biggest insurance for women’ to gain control over when they marry and have children, especially once financially secure. Ram Charan and Upasana married in 2012 and became parents in 2023. They recently announced they are expecting twins.
