Director Suparn Verma, celebrated for his latest film Haq, has unveiled intriguing details surrounding the movie’s talked-about climax. The critically acclaimed courtroom drama features a final scene involving a solitary rose, and Verma has confirmed that its true significance is understood by an exclusive group of just three people. Speaking about the creative process, Verma revealed that the ending was conceived early in the film’s development. He shared with Bajarbattu Duniya that the core meaning of the final sequence is understood only by himself, lead actors Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam, and production designer Rishika. Verma detailed how the visual element of the rose was integrated seamlessly into the narrative. He explained to Rishika that he required a rose garden for the final shot, and she not only provided it but also contributed significantly to the scene’s impact. The director highlighted the rose’s symbolic journey, starting as a gift from Emraan’s character to Yami’s in their initial encounter, a dried rose preserved in a book, and later reappearing prominently in the film’s conclusion. Verma intentionally refrains from revealing his personal interpretation, aiming to spark a continuing dialogue with the audience, embracing the multiplicity of viewer responses. The casting for the antagonist, Abbas Khan, also presented a puzzle. Verma confessed that while Emraan Hashmi’s name was prominent, he initially deemed it an unlikely prospect. He believes that persistence and a strong desire for a particular outcome can manifest, leading to Hashmi’s eventual involvement, bringing his unique screen presence to the complex role. Haq, which resonates with themes from the Shah Bano case, is earning praise for its performances and sensitive handling of subject matter.
