Get ready for a tennis extravaganza! The World Tennis League (WTL), a popular international team competition, is making its highly anticipated India debut in Bengaluru from December 17th to 20th. After captivating audiences in the UAE, the WTL will now bring its unique brand of high-octane tennis to the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium for a four-day spectacle.
The league has secured an impressive roster of global tennis superstars. Attendees will witness the skills of Daniil Medvedev, Nick Kyrgios, and Grand Slam champion Elena Rybakina. The star-studded lineup also includes Paula Badosa, Gael Monfils, and Arthur Fils. Indian tennis icons Rohan Bopanna and Sumit Nagal are also set to participate, alongside emerging talents like Yuki Bhambri and Ankita Raina, ensuring a strong representation of home-grown talent.
Rybakina, currently ranked World No. 5, shared her enthusiasm for her inaugural appearance in India. She spoke of the nation’s rich tennis heritage and her keen anticipation for the WTL’s innovative format. The tournament structure involves four teams competing in a round-robin format, with each contest comprising men’s singles, women’s singles, and two doubles rubbers. The top two teams will battle it out in the grand finale.
Co-founder of WTL and tennis legend Mahesh Bhupathi stated that the league’s arrival in India aims to deepen the country’s enduring relationship with tennis. He praised the WTL’s format for embodying the sport’s dynamism and excitement. Bhupathi added that the league serves as a platform to inspire the next generation of Indian athletes by showcasing elite international talent alongside domestic stars.
