Chhattisgarh witnessed a major success in its fight against Maoist insurgency as security forces neutralized six Naxalites in Bijapur district on Tuesday. The fierce encounter took place in the ecologically rich Indravati National Park area, commencing around 10 am. A joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF), acting on specific intelligence about the presence of key Maoist operatives, engaged with the militants. The exchange of gunfire continued for an extended period, demonstrating the intensity of the clash. A thorough search of the encounter site revealed the bodies of six Maoists, equipped with various automatic firearms, including an INSAS rifle, sten guns, a .303 rifle, and a cache of explosives. The operation was further bolstered by additional units from the DRG, STF, Bastar Fighters, CRPF, and CAF to consolidate the area and capture any remaining Naxalites. The Chief Minister praised the security personnel for their bravery and commitment, reiterating the state’s resolve to end the Maoist menace. This year alone, Chhattisgarh has seen 259 Naxalites killed in encounters, highlighting the sustained pressure on extremist groups. Earlier, in a separate operation, an injured Maoist was captured and is currently receiving medical attention.
