A major traffic advisory has been issued for Delhi residents after a car blast near the Red Fort Metro Station caused widespread disruption. The Delhi Traffic Police are enforcing significant diversions to manage the situation and aid the investigation into the incident.
Effective immediately, traffic will be restricted on Netaji Subhash Marg, encompassing both carriageways and service roads from Chatta Rail Cut to Subhash Marg Cut. This crucial route should be avoided by commuters from 6:00 AM onwards to ensure a smooth passage for investigation activities. The blast site, still a hive of forensic activity, saw wreckage, including a steering wheel with visible bloodstains, strewn over a considerable area.
Authorities have identified Dr. Mohammad Umar, a known absconder associated with the Faridabad terror module, as the primary suspect. Evidence suggests Umar, along with two associates, was responsible for the attack, reportedly conducted under duress after recent arrests. The explosive used was ANFO, a high-intensity compound, which detonated at 6:52 PM. Security footage shows the car involved, a Hyundai i20, was deliberately positioned near Sunehri Masjid for nearly three hours prior to the explosion.
