Skoda Auto is gearing up to enhance its presence in India by bringing more of its renowned international models to the market. This expansion strategy is designed to meet the diverse preferences of Indian car buyers. While Skoda’s current vehicle portfolio in India covers a price range from below Rs 7 lakh to upwards of Rs 40 lakh, the company has decided to postpone the launch of electric cars in the near future.
A senior brand executive revealed that the core lineup of locally produced vehicles will remain consistent for the next year. Nevertheless, to enhance market engagement, Skoda intends to introduce several of its globally recognized and iconic vehicles to India. This initiative mirrors the earlier success seen with models like the Octavia. The specific models slated for import have not yet been disclosed.
Skoda currently markets its locally manufactured Kylaq, Kushaq, and Slavia, alongside imported vehicles such as the Octavia and Kodiaq. The year 2025 is proving to be Skoda’s strongest performance in India, with 61,607 units sold between January and October, already exceeding the 2022 record of 53,721 units. The company is focused on maintaining its 2% share in India’s passenger vehicle market.
Positive sales trends, influenced by economic reforms, are expected to persist into the coming months. Future model plans include enhancing the Kylaq range with new variants and updating the popular Kushaq and Slavia models. On the electric front, Skoda acknowledges the global imperative for electrification. However, persistent market uncertainties, including trade policy discussions and evolving EV regulations, have made it difficult to establish a definitive EV roadmap for India at this moment. Skoda assures that it is actively planning for future EV integration, recognizing its critical role in the long term.
