Skoda Auto India is set to broaden its model portfolio in the country by bringing in more international favorites, aiming to resonate with a diverse Indian clientele. While the company celebrates its strongest sales year yet, its entry into the electric vehicle (EV) segment is on hold. The automaker has expressed that current market conditions present too many variables for a stable EV strategy.
Brand Director Ashish Gupta indicated that the next year will see the introduction of more globally recognized Skoda nameplates, following the successful re-launch of the Octavia. The existing range in India includes locally manufactured models such as the Kushaq, Slavia, and Kodiaq, alongside imported options like the Octavia. These vehicles cater to a spectrum from entry-level to premium segments, priced between Rs 7 lakh and Rs 40 lakh.
Skoda has already achieved a significant milestone in India this year, exceeding its previous annual sales record. From January to October, the company delivered 61,607 units, solidifying its position and targeting a sustained 2% market share in the passenger vehicle segment. The positive sales trend is anticipated to persist through the end of the year.
In addition to new model imports, Skoda is focused on refining its current offerings. Expect expanded trim levels for the Kylaq and updates for the Kushaq and Slavia. On the EV front, Gupta emphasized that while Skoda has a substantial global EV lineup, the Indian market’s current volatility, influenced by policy discussions, necessitates a cautious approach. He assured that electric mobility is integral to Skoda’s future in India, though the timeline for local EV launches remains uncertain.
