This appointment honors Ghosh’s exceptional contributions during the recent Women’s ODI World Cup. The felicitation ceremony, held at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, saw Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee present Ghosh with her official appointment letter. Beyond her new role in law enforcement, Ghosh was also bestowed with the prestigious Banga Bhushan award. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) further celebrated her achievements by presenting her with a symbolic golden bat and ball, alongside a financial reward of Rs 34 lakhs. This sum corresponds to the 34 runs she scored in the crucial final match of the World Cup. During the event, former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly lauded Ghosh’s difficult yet skillful innings, noting her ability to perform under immense pressure and high required run rates. He highlighted her impactful play at number six. Both Ganguly and the Chief Minister expressed their belief that Richa Ghosh is destined to captain the Indian women’s cricket team.
