Tragedy struck near Bilaspur on Tuesday as a passenger train collided with a goods train, resulting in 11 fatalities and injuring 20 people. The accident happened around 4 pm as the MEMU train was traveling towards Bilaspur from Gevra. Preliminary reports suggest the passenger train may have run through a red signal before striking the cargo train.
The collision’s intensity caused a passenger coach to be lifted and rest on top of a goods wagon. In response to the disaster, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has ordered immediate assistance for the victims. He announced that ₹5 lakh will be given to the families of those who perished, and the injured will receive ₹50,000 and comprehensive medical care.
Emergency crews are working diligently to clear the site and restore normal operations. Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the crash. The railway administration is in constant communication with medical facilities to ensure all injured passengers receive specialized care and support during their recovery.
