The United States is set to resume nuclear weapons testing, a move President Donald Trump is justifying by citing the activities of other global powers, notably Pakistan, Russia, and China. Trump articulated in a television interview that unlike the US, which openly discusses its actions, these nations conduct tests without public scrutiny. “They don’t have reporters that are going to be writing about it,” he commented. The President stressed that with countries like North Korea consistently testing, and Russia and China also engaged in nuclear development, the US cannot afford to be the sole nation abstaining from testing. He stated, “We’re going to test because they test and others test.” This decision follows Russia’s recent tests of advanced systems, raising alarms about escalating global tensions. Trump suggested that having “more nuclear weapons than anybody” necessitates understanding their functionality through testing, especially when rivals are actively developing their arsenals. He also mentioned discussions about denuclearization with Russian and Chinese leaders.
