A cunning scheme to smuggle gold worth around Rs 20 lakh was thwarted at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. An Air India passenger, who had just arrived from Dubai, was apprehended by Customs officials on October 25. The individual attempted to bypass customs declarations by utilizing the green channel, a route designated for passengers carrying no dutiable items.
However, security personnel, observing suspicious behavior, followed the passenger and conducted a thorough search. An ingenious hiding spot was discovered: a piece of gold cleverly concealed within the cap of a water bottle. This 170-gram gold recovery, valued at approximately Rs 20 lakh, was subsequently seized according to customs regulations. This incident underscores the ongoing efforts to combat illicit trade at the airport.
