The CR450, China’s newest bullet train, has shattered speed records, achieving an incredible 453 km/h during its latest trial run. This state-of-the-art train is engineered for commercial speeds of up to 400 km/h, an advancement over the existing CR400 Fuxing series which operates at 350 km/h. The advanced trials are being conducted on the Shanghai–Chengdu high-speed line, showcasing the train’s potential for rapid intercity travel. The CR450 boasts a more aerodynamic design, featuring an extended 15-meter nose, a reduced roof height by 20 cm, and a lighter chassis weighing 55 tons less than previous models. These strategic modifications result in a significant 22% reduction in air resistance, translating to enhanced performance and better fuel economy. The acceleration capabilities are equally impressive; the train can go from 0 to 350 km/h in just 4 minutes and 40 seconds, a notable improvement over older models. During testing, a remarkable world record was set when two CR450s passed each other at a combined velocity of 896 km/h. The train is undergoing an extensive 600,000-kilometer validation process to ensure utmost reliability before passenger services commence. Inspired by the aerodynamics of high-performance sports cars, engineers have meticulously crafted the CR450’s exterior, including its undercarriage and bogies, for minimal drag. This achievement signifies a new era in high-speed rail development, establishing China as a global leader in developing the world’s fastest and most efficient passenger trains.
